El Papa describe su encíclica "Alabado seas” como un documento dramático y alegre. En ella pide a los cristianos que dejen de mirar hacia otro lado ante las heridas del planeta y que lo cuiden como a la propia madre.
1. MIRAR LA REALIDAD CON SINCERIDAD
Describe de un modo bastante realista lo que la inmensa mayoría de expertos ya sabe:

- la contaminación que provoca muertes prematuras;
- el calentamiento global, que va de la mano del crecimiento del nivel del mar y de eventos meteorológicos extremos;
- cada vez menos personas con acceso a agua potable y segura;
- desaparecen especies vegetales y animales necesarios para la alimentación y la cura de enfermedades.

Se trata procesos causados o al menos favorecidos por el hombre.

2. DEPREDADORES
El Papa dice que no se trata de un problema ecológico sino un problema ético. Denuncia las agresiones al medio ambiente de algunas empresas que hacen en países menos desarrollados actividades que no pueden hacer en sus propios países.

Es lo que está ocurriendo en la Amazonia.

3. DESINTERÉS
Lamenta que muchos esfuerzos para salvar el planeta mueren por la falta de interés de personas normales.

Denuncia actitudes que van desde la negación del problema hasta la indiferencia, o de la resignación cómoda o la confianza ciega en las soluciones técnicas.

Con los cristianos es más duro. Les pide una "conversión ecológica” para "vivir la vocación de ser protectores de la obra de Dios”, algo que no es ni opcional ni secundario.

4. COHERENCIA
Pide coherencia a los activistas ecologistas, para no caer en contradicciones: "Cuando no se reconoce en la realidad misma el valor de un pobre, de un embrión humano, de una persona con discapacidad –por poner sólo algunos ejemplos–, difícilmente se escucharán los gritos de la misma naturaleza”, escribe.

5. CONTEMPLAR EL MUNDO
La encíclica abre horizontes y dice que al ser un problema ético, la solución pasa por el corazón del ser humano: propone mirar la belleza de la naturaleza con estupor, para no comportarse como consumidores o explotadores de recursos naturales, que se guían por el interés inmediato.

6. LA SOLUCIÓN DEPENDE DE TI
"La atenuación de los efectos del actual desequilibrio depende de lo que hagamos ahora mismo”, escribe el Papa. Por eso, propone cambiar estilos de vida a través de pequeños gestos cotidianos:

- reciclar papel,
- diferenciar las basuras,
- o ponerse un jersey en vez de aumentar la calefacción.

7. El pecado humano en la tierra herida

El saqueo de la creación es pecado. Es un mal que es infligido a todas las criaturas. Que actúa como un pecado estructural con responsabilidad personal que genera medios malignos que olvidando las personas ofendiendo a Dios. Ciertamente que tiene su origen mucho más atrás en formas de ambición que se van trasformando y que cada vez concentran más el poder.

La cadena de responsabilidades tiene diferentes grados quedando encubierta por la banalidad, donde las responsabilidades personales se diluyen en la trama. En esta ruptura con la creación, Dios invita y reclama la conversión en los distintos niveles de culpabilidad abarcando la responsabilidad de los que tiene los medios de producción, de los que realizan la administración política, de los funcionarios o de los consumidores. La cuestión climática pasa, desde el punto de vista cristiano, por una conversión general de múltiples implicaciones.

8. Poner límites al mal del calentamiento global

Ya la inspiración bíblica pone límites a las elecciones de los seres humanos. El Creador es el que pone límites entre la luz y las tinieblas, entre el caos y el orden. También el ser humano tiene sus límites en la mortalidad y en la capacidad de trasgredir el plan de Dios. Cuando traspasa estos límites daña la armonía de la creación, así en relato de Gén 1 señala que en el ámbito natural hay cosas de las que no se puede disponer (prohibiciones) porque ponen en riesgo la vida creada por Dios.

La ciencia y la técnica asociadas el progreso abren las fronteras de lo posible, pero ¿dónde comienzan los límites del progreso? La ciencia del clima nos ha mostrado las consecuencias de superar unos límites en el calentamiento global. Aquí la ciencia, en sus certezas e incertezas, nos señala los límites nos hacen recordar el viejo mandato divino donde asumirlos es cuestión de vida o muerte.
