291. Vivamos la responsabilidad de ser un pueblo profético. Monseñor nos dice unas cuantas verdades. Le da lástima ver nuestra cobardía y nuestra traición. Suena fuerte y – creo- que no nos gusta escuchar este juicio. ¿Qué están haciendo ustedes”, nos pregunta. Y nos pone un espejo: en tu profesión, en tu trabajo en el campo o la fábrica, en el mercado,… y podemos añadir: en el sindicato, en el partido político, en tu puesto en algún nivel de gobierno o ministerio,…. ¿dónde está tu bautismo? Pregunta inquietante…. Como pueblo profético tenemos que hacer ciertas cosas en las cuales no podemos fallar si no queremos traicionar nuestro bautismo. En nombre de la verdad desenmascarar la mentira (tan enraizada en los medios de comunicación, en los discursos políticos, pero también en los chambres y las calumnias inventadas para dañar a otros). No esconder nuestro talento, nuestras capacidades para servir al pueblo, para ir en defensa de las y los pobres, para formar iglesia como signo e instrumento del Reino de Dios. Dice Monseñor. “Vivamos de verdad la belleza y la responsabilidad de ser un pueblo profético”.

292. María es el modelo, el paradigma del seguidor del Evangelio. Las devociones mariales han desviado muchas veces (acabo de constatarlo nuevamente en las fiestas de la virgen de Guadalupe). Los devotos expresan: he prometido a la virgen que cada año vendré vestido de india para darle gracias si me consigue tal y cual bendición, y cosas semejantes. Otros caminan de rodillas como expresión de agradecimiento por los favores recibidos o por suplicarle a la virgen su intervención….. Monseñor Romero, al hablar de María nos direcciona hacia “una devoción liberadora”, una devoción que “nos haga aprender de María la libertad con que ella hablaba”, una devoción que nos motive para “dar la cara por Cristo cuando por la injusticia del mundo queda clavado en la cruz”. Monseñor nos recuerda que María “se quedó ahí cerca de la cruz” cuando todos huían. En las tradiciones eclesiales católicas las autoridades han separado a María del pueblo. ¿Qué significa en la realidad histórica llamar a María “Reina de la paz”, “emperatriz de América” y tantos otros nombres alienantes que se ha dado a María. Monseñor Romero recuerda en esta cita al Cardenal Pironio: “la que visita América con los pies descalzos, con un niño indigente que nos hace libres”. Esta es otro acercamiento a María. María – según los pocos testimonios evangélicos que tenemos de ella – es un modelo de seguimiento a Jesús, siempre nos refiere a Jesús, da el ejemplo (también en el aprendizaje sobre el Reino de Dios), la que ha sabido expresar las angustias de las y los pobres en grandes esperanzas libertarias (el magnificat). Lastimosamente muchas devociones mariales se han apartado de la realidad histórica. En la conciencia religiosa de no pocos se enraizó que las devociones, los cultos, los rezos, … a María sustituyen el compromiso de libertad y de liberación de María en el camino de Jesús.

293. Como María sepamos desenmascarar el mal. Monseñor Romero nos dice hoy que María es un ejemplo de vida cristiana y menciona varios aspectos fundamentales de nuestro compromiso cristiano: enjugar lágrimas y consolar tristezas – asumir valientemente la misión profética – desenmascarar el mal - reclamar contra las injusticias. Dice Monseñor: “Igual que María”. La devoción a María (con las ofrendas del pueblo en los santuarios marianos!!!) no está encaminado para que el pueblo devoto de María camine por las sendas del Evangelio. Cumplir con los ritos, con las devociones marianas tradicionales y los rezos, se ha impuesto como mucho más importante que los aspectos fundamentales que Monseñor nos menciona como el compromiso cristiano “igual a María”. La devoción a María no puede llevar al pueblo a infantilismos, sino debería de motivarnos para asumir nuestro papel histórico como lo hizo María: estoy dispuesta, digo sí con todo mi ser, arriesgo todo, me levanto y voy…. Nadie ni nada me detendrá para seguir su compromiso.

294. Ponerlo todo bajo el imperio de Dios. No me gusta la expresión “el imperio de Dios”. Espero que Monseñor me lo perdone. Dios no es un emperador, ni la cabeza de un imperio. Hasta la misma expresión del reino de Dios, el reinar de Dios, Cristo Rey,… se transforma tan fácilmente en dependencia, esclavitud, servilismo,…. Claro Monseñor no habla en ese sentido. Lo sé. Debemos reflexionar frecuentemente para ver por dónde camina nuestra responsabilidad y nuestra vida, para hacer de nuestra vida un compromiso que sea verdadero colaboración en el camino de Jesús, ese “reino” de justicia, paz, libertad, verdad, fraternidad, solidaridad, misericordia,…. Monseñor ha denunciado con frecuencia las idolatrías que nos desvían del proyecto de Dios. En una cultura “cristianizada” encontramos con frecuencia gente que participa en actividades religiosas, pero que en su vida privada o económica o política actúan en contra de la vida de las y los demás, explotando, dominando, legislando para los ídolos, acaparando para si mismo, haciéndose corruptos y mentirosos,….. Y además no pocas veces se presentan como defensores de la verdadera religión. Monseñor nos pide con insistencia que pongamos todos nuestros esfuerzos (por cambiar las estructuras, por transformar nuestras actitudes, por profundizar nuestras conciencias,…) al servicio de esos valores del “reino” de Dios.

295. El sello del Espíritu Monseñor Romero nos comparte que “todo cristiano, desde el día de su bautismo, va sellado con el sello del Espíritu”. Y esto es la garantía de la presencia activa del Espíritu Santo durante la vida y que será consumado hasta más allá de la muerte. El sello se pone en algún común acuerdo donde las partes se comprometen a cumplir lo acordado. El cristiano/a se compromete a entrar en la dinámica del Reino y a caminar por el camino de Jesús, mientras Dios mismo se compromete a estar presente con la fuerza del Espíritu, aquí durante y la vida y más allá. Por supuesto en un acuerdo firmado y sellado, debemos cumplir. “El anuncio del Reino nos asegura ese sello del Espíritu”, nos dice Monseñor. La pregunta mayor es: ¿y nuestro compromiso? La gran tentación real del cristianismo es ser un instituto de religión (con sus normas, ritos, doctrinas, autoridades, ..) y marginalizar el camino del Evangelio, es decir, la manera de vivir y de actuar de Jesús. Porque en este camino de Jesús está precisamente la originalidad de la humanización de Dios (lo que celebramos en Navidad), no en otra tradición religiosa.

296. Es gracia de Dios la fe. “Que cada vez busquemos más seguir a Cristo” . Será dentro de esa búsqueda constante y permanente que “el Padre nos inspira quién es Cristo”. Vivir así será un profundo agradecimiento. Así nace la fe como gracia, como oferta, como donación. No es nuestro invento y tampoco somos los dueños de la fe. Dios siempre será soberano ante esto. Nos toca caminar muchas veces en oscuridades, en las noches y navegar en medio de grandes tormentas y olas fuertes en contra, pero podemos confiar en el Dios de la Vida. El camino de Jesús no es un rito que da seguridad, es un camino a andar, a hacer, a buscar. Jesús vivió hace 2000 años, en otra cultura, con otros retos. Por eso debemos profundizar e ir conociendo mejor el verdadero significado de ese camino de Jesús. Así podremos “seguir a Cristo”. Me llama la atención la frase de Monseñor en esta cita: “Que no se nos pierda la fe”. La fe cristiana tiene que ver con el seguimiento a Jesús.
