304. La religión agradable a Dios

Qué frase más clara y evangélica: “Los pobres nos dan la oportunidad de no hacer una religión vacía de obras”. Monseñor dice que esas situaciones de pobreza, sufrimiento, marginación son “la mina de donde está la riqueza para no profesar una religión vacía de obras”.  Y está consciente que esa mina “está despreciada por muchos”.  Ritos, culto, tradiciones religioso-culturales-populares,… han sustituido muchas veces la vivencia de esa religión de obras, respondiendo a la presencia de Jesús, de Dios mismo, en los que tienen hambre, sed, que están en la cárcel, que están enfermos.   Vivir la fe según el modelo y el camino de Jesús nos exige evitar vivir “esa religión sin obras”. La verdadera y auténtica adoración del Santísimo, se dan en la solidaridad, en el compartir, en la fraternidad, en la lucha por la vida, ….

Los verdaderos resultados de un gobierno no se observa en las ganancias de los ricos, sino en la vida de las y los pobres.  El valor de la vida no depende de lo que se logra acumular, de lo que se logra destinar a compras, a paseos, a lujos o comodidades, sino de nuestros aportes para que más pobres tengan más oportunidades de vida.  “los pobres dan la oportunidad de no hacer una religión vacía de obras”, nos dice Monseñor Romero.

 

305. Platicar con mi Señor y Dios.

Los que hemos conocido un poco a Monseñor Romero sabemos que ha sido un hombre de oración.  Cuando nos refiere a la conciencia donde Dios nos habla y donde podemos hablar con Dios, no está diciendo algo teórico, sino habla de su propia experiencia. Vivir esa interioridad nos hace vivir con sinceridad y se transforma en la voz de Dios, en la mano de Dios,…  Por eso que recuerda hoy esa frase de los santos “El que ora vive bien, el que no ora, vive mal”.    Se vive mal cuando la vida no corresponde al Reino de Dios.  Alguien puede vivir “bien” según las normas de la sociedad de riqueza y poder, pero vivirá mal ante los ojos de Dios, porque se ha apartado de la vida de las y los pobres.

Y orar no es una cuestión de rezos o largas quejas o peticiones.  Si la oración no brota desde esa célula de la conciencia, desde esa interioridad, desde ese encuentro constante con Dios mismo, será puro humo, fachada, máscara, engaño,…. 

 

306. ¿Qué me puede hacer la muerte?

Monseñor da testimonio: “los sacerdotes asesinados están aquí dándonos el estímulo de haber sabido morir sin miedo, porque llevaban su conciencia comprometida con esta ley del Señor: la opción preferencia por los pobres.”  Por eso los siente presente al presidir la eucaristía.    La ley de Dios es esa opción preferencia por los pobres.  Lo vivimos y lo celebramos nuevamente en Navidad: Dios ha escogido la vida de las y los pobres para hacerse presente como humano en la historia humana.  Puede ser que no nos gusta y que no nos parece “correcto”, sin embargo así es Dios. 

Cuando la Iglesia latinoamericana proclama la opción preferencia por los pobres como su camino para la pastoral, para su presencia, para sus obras, está asumiendo el camino de Dios mismo.  Y hacer esto, dice Monseñor, nos quita el miedo ante la muerte (el ser asesinado).  Si hemos concretizado esa opción preferencial por los pobres, entonces “si morimos con la conciencia tranquila, con el corazón limpio de haber producido solo obras de bondad, ¿qué me puede hacer la muerte?

Pasaron los años de la represión violenta contra la Iglesia, pero da la impresión que hoy tenemos mucho más miedo que en aquel entonces. 

 

307. El catequista

El arzobispo, el pastor, quiere ser catequista de su diócesis. Y lo entiende como: “con la sencillez de una catequista dar la instrucción que nos hace conscientes de ser una Iglesia de Cristo”. 

Monseñor hace referencia al compromiso y la entrega de las y los catequistas en los cantones y caseríos. Hombres y mujeres se han ido formando a lo largo de su vida cristiana y empezaron a animar a sus vecinos/as en la fe, en el seguimiento de Jesús. Muchas veces no contaban con medios especiales.  La sencillez de las y los catequistas.  

La misión de ese arzobispo, pastor-catequista es concienciarnos, hacer crecer nuestra conciencia cristiana de que somos Iglesia de Cristo.   Gracias a la Dra Maria Julia Hernández contamos con las palabras de Monseñor Romero, con sus homilías. Contamos con varios escritos.  Su gran preocupación era hacernos crecer en conciencia cristiana, no quedarnos en tradiciones, ni en doctrinas, sino llevarnos a una conciencia práctica de servicio al Reino de Dios. 

“Ser una Iglesia de Cristo.”  No es así nomás un nombre más de otra iglesia. Se trata de la tremenda misión de ser esa comunidad de fe que responda al camino de Jesús y no a otras cosas que los humanos podemos inventarnos.  Hoy encontramos una gran variedad de nombres inventados para iglesias.  La única brújula es Jesús. Aquel que nació en Belén. Aquel de Nazaret.  Esa figura histórica, su vida, sus opciones, sus andanzas, sus enseñanzas, su fidelidad,….. 

 

308. Arriesgar la vida por Cristo.

Monseñor Romero hablaba de la experiencia eclesial de su arquidiócesis y de su propia experiencia como pastor.  “El que no arriesga su vida, el que quiera estar demasiado bien, el que quiere salvar su vida, eso quiere decir la expresión: estar bien, salvar la vida, no comprometerse, no meterse en líos, en problemas, pues ese la va a perder.”

Si tenemos un horizonte escatológico, nos dice, no teme arriesgar todo, porque sabe que no perderá la vida: el horizonte del Reino de Dios, el horizonte de la fidelidad de Dios para con la creación y con la historia humana!!

Los acuerdos de paz no resolvieron los grandes problemas de El Salvador.  Sin embargo hoy observamos que entre las y los cristianos hay más comodidad: es mejor no meterse en los problemas del país, no solidarizarse en el dolor de otros, limitarse a tradiciones religiosas y cantar las alabanzas, participar del culto y de los ritos de la Iglesia,….    Con tanta facilidad – observo – se hace memoria de las y los que derramaron su sangre por nuestra liberación, pero también con tanta facilidad nos quedamos a la orilla del camino.  Dentro de dos meses tendremos elecciones (municipales y legislativas)… ¿hasta dónde asumiremos nuestra responsabilidad? 

 

309.  Somos imágenes de Dios.

“No podemos contentarnos con grandezas mediocres”.  Si somos imagen de Dios, nos toca asumir grandes responsabilidades en la construcción del Reino.   Monseñor dice que los Santos han sido muy ambiciosos.  Por supuesto no por el poder o por la riqueza, sino por ser de verdad imagen de Dios, por hacer visible y palpable a ese Dios, por actuar como actuó Jesús, Hijo de Dios. 

Parece más cómodo ser imagen de los dioses falsos, de los ídolos. No exigen compromiso, ni entrega, ni servicio a los demás: solo el interés propio!   Monseñor Romero lo llamaría esas grandezas mediocres.

Seamos santos de verdad: imagen real e histórica del Dios de Jesús.
