335. El compromiso del cristiano.

el cristiano que no quiera vivir este compromiso de solidaridad con el pobre, no es digno de llamarse cristiano”.  Nos toca “seguir a Cristo en su encarnación”, en el camino de Dios mismo que “se hizo hombre humilde hasta la muerte de los esclavos en una cruz,  y vive con los pobres”.

El pecado gravísimo del cristiano/a es no cumplir a cabalidad y en radicalidad con este compromiso.   Lo llamo pecado grave porque es apartarse totalmente del camino del evangelio, traicionar a Jesús, aunque se vaya a misa el día de guardar 1 de enero[1].  

En la comunidad eclesial de base, el primer domingo de resurrección que pude presidir la eucaristía en la parroquia de Zacamil (1978), Santiago (que vivía con su familia en una zona marginal de San Salvador) me dijo: “siempre hay familias más pobres que la nuestra, por eso traigo aquí lo que hemos ayunado durante este cuaresma”. 

Cuando por casualidad me toca en un templo de una parroquia de clase media o alta, siempre me pregunto: ¿Qué mensaje, qué evangelio estarían proclamando aquí cada domingo y en las misas diarias? 

Este compromiso que Monseñor Romero menciona en esta cita, debe ser el criterio que nos guía constantemente, en la comunidad eclesial de base, en nuestro quehacer, en nuestros compromisos de la “encarnación” en la vida real de las y los más pobres. 

336. En Cristo tenemos el modelo de la historia.

Monseñor nos habla hoy del horizonte de la vida y de la historia: la resurrección. “todas las historias tienen que caminar hacia el Cristo resucitado”.  Pero esa fe en la resurrección (tantas veces repetidas en nuestros Credos) debe concretarse en “vivir la libertad que ya se saborea en esta tierra”.  Posteriormente la “disfrutaremos en la plenitud del Reino de Dios”.  No pocas veces cristianas/os predicamos la fe en la resurrección, la celebramos, pero sin comprometernos en la vivencia de la libertad, la justicia, la fraternidad, la verdad, la misericordia, la vida (los valores del Reino definitivo). 

Revisemos, pues, nuestra vida, ¿de qué manera tenemos en Cristo el modelo de la historia?   Si nos limitamos a la dimensión religiosa o cultual, estamos totalmente perdidos.  Los evangelios nos hablan con claridad al respecto: tuve hambre, tuve sed, estaba enfermo,…. En una palabra “Yo era pobre”… y ¿me encontraste?

 

337. Somos obra del Espíritu Santo.

“Ese Cristo comienza a formar un pueblo nuevo. Somos nosotros, los cristianos”.  Comparto con Monseñor Romero que así tendría que ser, que esa es nuestra misión y nuestra razón de ser, nuestro ideal. Sin embargo la realidad de historia de las iglesias es muy diferente. Y  durante no pocos tiempos prolongados las iglesias hemos dado testimonios de exactamente lo opuesto a “ese pueblo nuevo de Dios”. 

Monseñor nos dice en esta cita: “la historia de la salvación la va haciendo Dios en la historia de cada pueblo”. Aquí comparto de lleno con Monseñor.  Menos mal que Dios no cuenta solamente con las iglesias, sino con todos los hombres y todas las mujeres “de buena voluntad” que se comprometen por transformar esta historia en Vida.  En ellos/as el Espíritu Santo está presente, los empuje, los motiva, aunque no estén conscientes de todo esto. 

“Somos obra del Espíritu Santo”, en la medida que realmente seguimos el camino abierto por Jesús, en la medida que nos arriesgamos a construir los valores del Reino y a arrancar de raíz las estructuras del anti-Reino que provocan la muerte de “las y los pobres”. 

338. Disfrutemos la vida nueva de Cristo resucitado.

Exactamente a un mes de su asesinato y resurrección Monseñor Romero nos invita a “disfrutar la vida nueva de Cristo resucitado”.   Pero cuidado, no se trata de culto, no se trata de “aleluyas”, no se trata de incienso, no se  trata de cirios pascuales, no se trata de gritos de alegría porque Cristo ha resucitado, sino, nos dice Monseñor: “buscando un país más justo, más fraterno, donde se viva más intensamente la vida de Dios” .  Esto es vivir disfrutando la vida nueva de Cristo resucitado. Solamente si estamos comprometidos en esa búsqueda real de un país transformado, podremos celebrar dignamente la liturgia de la resurrección.

Es la última cuaresma en la vida creyente de Monseñor Romero.  Se va preparando – aunque no sabe la fecha, ni la hora – para su encuentro definitivo con Jesús en la cruz y así también con el Cristo resucitado.  Monseñor debe haber vivido muy intensamente aquella cuaresma, preparación adecuada para la Pascua. Me llama la atención que no dice cuaresma como preparación para la celebración de la Pascua, sino “para la Pascua”: el camino hacia la cruz, la tortura, asesinato, el abandono, y … la resurrección: Dios ha vencido.     En nuestras Iglesias lo olvidamos tan fácilmente y pensamos que la cuaresma (con sus símbolos litúrgicos, el ayuno, la oración y la limosna) nos va a preparar para “celebrar” la semana santa. NO. Monseñor nos dice con claridad: la cuaresma que nos prepara para la Pascua, la pascua personal, la pascua de nuestros pueblos. 

 

339. Cristo es salvadoreño.

Monseñor nos da un ejemplo clarito de cómo podemos entender la verdadera encarnación de Dios en la historia humana.  Considera que Cristo es salvadoreño, resucita en El Salvador, para que nosotros “busquemos, con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo, nuestra propia historia, nuestra propia dignidad de pueblo salvadoreño.”  Por supuesto, esto vale para cada pueblo, también para los pueblos que no se han encontrado con ese misterio de la encarnación de Dios en Jesús de Nazaret. 

“nuestra propia dignidad de pueblo salvadoreño”. Y Monseñor sabe de lo que está hablando, ya que diariamente se encuentra con la gente del pueblo que le comparte como se está violando brutalmente esa dignidad de nuestro pueblo.  Vivir la resurrección de Cristo (Salvadoreño) significa comprometerse en la construcción de un pueblo resucitado, un pueblo con una vida digna. 

Con la tremenda ola de violencia en nuestra patria, me pregunto ¿cuántas familias en duelo van a compartir su dolor (por la dignidad aplastada de sus hijos/as) con las y los encargados de las iglesias, sacerdotes, pastores, obispos?    No basta darnos cuenta por la TV, radio o los periódicos con los “cuentamuertos”.   Sin sentir el dolor del pueblo que ve a sus hijos sangrando hasta morir, no se puede dar testimonio de la resurrección de Cristo.
