Iglesias por la Paz es un colectivo integrado por diferentes personas y organizaciones de diferentes confesiones y tradiciones espirituales que tienen la convicción de ayudar y contribuir a la construcción de paz en México y el mundo.
 
Desde sus inicios, Iglesias por la paz,  se oponen a la violencia, la discriminación y las injusticias, a través de las actividades, acciones, pronunciamientos que lleva a cabo con el fin de sensibilizar a la sociedad y gobierno sobre la importancia del proceso de la construcción de paz, siempre con una dimensión ética y espiritual y en reconocimiento de las libertades individuales. 
 
La paz en México sufre un embate generalizado para los diferentes sectores de la población desde la infancia, la adolescencia y la juventud, hasta las mujeres y hombres adultos,  de la tercera y cuarta edad; este embate se ha escalado a la par de los procesos electorales. Durante este período mujeres y hombres candidatos a puestos de elección popular han perdido la vida de manera violenta; las calles de diferentes ciudades viven indebidos narcobloqueos y diversos analistas consideran que la violencia puede aumentar en lo que resta de las campañas y todavía más allá de que asuman las nuevas administraciones de los tres niveles de gobierno. Lo anterior implica fuertes  pérdidas económicas, pero sobre todo, la pérdida de la tranquilidad personal, familiar y comunitaria y especialmente, la pérdida de vidas humanas.
 
La paz es fruto de la justicia y esto exige alzar la voz, para hacer un llamado a todas las personas involucradas, tanto a quienes perpetran, como a quienes son responsables intelectuales de la violencia, para que eviten caer en la tentación de eliminar a sus adversarios. El pacto laico de civilidad política nos enseña que en democracia ni los triunfos, ni las derrotas son para siempre; hay que esmerarse por ganar las posiciones de la administración pública en buena lid, con argumentos, con ideas, con propuestas, no asesinando a quienes tienen proyectos alternativos y mucho menos atentando contra la sociedad civil; en este sentido, los milenarios mandamientos judeo-cristianos son claros: no matarás; no cometerás fraude; no robarás; no mentirás y no codiciarás; que se resumen en el respeto a la otredad, teniendo por base honrar a Dios.
A la par de todos estos escenarios de exacerbada violencia, de guerra sucia y pedestre nivel de discusión política de todos los candidatos y candidatas en la pretendida búsqueda del voto de los ciudadanos,  donde la calumnia y  la difamación imperan tanto en actos públicos, como en redes sociales, ahora también la clase empresarial se ha subido a la arena político-electoral. 
 
Como Iglesias por la Paz, nos pronunciamos a favor del principio democrático de elección libre y rechazamos la inducción al voto, como lo hacen algunos empresarios al llamar a sus empleados a no votar por el populismo, en clara alusión a un candidato presidencial. Así mismo rechazamos cualquier llamado a votar por algún partido o candidato desde los púlpitos. 
 
En este sentido, denunciamos el uso y abuso de los símbolos y expresiones religiosas de una gran cantidad de actores políticos y eclesiales en este proceso electoral, en clara violación a los principios de  laicidad, ahora más que garantizada en el artículo 40 de nuestra Constitución, que a la letra dice: “Es voluntad del pueblo mexicano constituirse en una República representativa, democrática, laica y federal, compuesta por Estados libres y soberanos…”.
 
Es por eso que hacemos este llamado  en el Hemiciclo a Juárez, pues también queremos destacar la importancia del Estado laico como garante no sólo de nuestras libertades religiosas, sino de todas nuestras libertades amenazadas hoy en México.
 
Un país es la  casa común, la patria que construimos con enorme sacrificio día a día. Hoy, en México, nuestra patria, millones transitamos en  medio de una patria dividida y asolada por el miedo y el terror. Una violencia desbordada en un irrespeto por la vida y un Estado que desde sus prácticas corruptas y abuso de una opresión económica y social,  nos dice: “sálvese quien pueda”. Ningún pueblo merece esto, pero tampoco ningún pueblo aguanta más.
 
Desde las iglesias, como  comunidades inspiradas por el Espíritu de muchos rostros y en la práctica de una ética ciudadana,  se nos demanda razón de nuestra fe, encarnada entre el dolor de una ciudadanía desamparada.  Desde la  profecía bíblica se nos impele a ver el escenario completo de la patria;  por una parte,  vemos   a las ollas hirvientes que se derraman en destrucción y muerte, sangre de inocentes, pueblo cautivo de la sinrazón; pero también ver   hacia los almendros que florecen en medio de la  muerte, porque la vida sigue en el pueblo que mantiene su  lucha y resistencia. (Jeremías 1: 11-13).
 
Hoy, la patria, tiene la cabeza dolorida, el corazón entero apenado,  heridas, golpes, llagas vivas que no han sido envueltas ni vendadas, ni aliviadas con aceite;  nuestro  país es una soledad con ciudades hechas cenizas… (Isaías 1:6-7) pero también es la patria que florece y que añora la liberación de Jesús, el que nos deja su paz, el que nos ofrece su paz, para vivirla en la justicia de la sanidad y del fin del duelo. Y no nos acobardamos…
