LA LUCHA CONTRA EL CANCER

 

En mis 37 años de servicio sacerdotal he tenido que atender a muchos pacientes en “la lucha contra el cáncer”. La mayoría de ellos con solo saberlo, entran en una gran “depresión” que los desincorpora de sus tareas habituales, ya sea por el “dolor” tanto físico como anímico, o por ese “estado de ánimo” que es peor que el mismo cáncer. He tenido ejemplos concretos como el caso de una amiga de mi tía que todos los fines de semana salía con ella y con su esposo a restaurantes y fiestas con gran entusiasmo y el día que se enteró que tenía cáncer, se encerró en un cuarto y no salió mas, se echó a morir “antes del tiempo” (ya tenía unos cuantos meses con el cáncer pero no lo habían descubierto). Lo mismo una señora de 30 años con dos hijos y un excelente esposo que desde que se enteró de su “cáncer terminal”, hizo lo mismo; yo recuerdo que me la llevaron para que hablara conmigo y al oírla le dije: ¿Por qué Ud. tiene miedo morirse y abandonar a su esposo y a sus hijos si ya Ud. está muerta? Hacía meses que los tenía abandonado. Ella gracias a Dios reaccionó y le dije: “Viva intensamente cada día, disfrute de su esposo y de sus hijos y déle gracias a Dios cada ves que se levante con vida y póngase en sus manos y déjele el “cáncer” a EL. A los dos años la volví a ver y no se había muerto todavía. Lamentablemente en los otros casos se “murieron” antes de tiempo y no siguieron viviendo desde que lo supieron.

 

En ésta “lucha contra el cáncer” hay un paladín; un testimonio ejemplar. Me refiero al caso de nuestro Presidente Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías quien va a someterse a su quinta operación y nunca ha bajado la guardia y desde que se enteró la primera vez, en vez de “tirar la toalla” como hace la mayoría, empezó a vivir con mayor intensidad sabiendo que el SEÑOR le había llamado para cumplir una Misión muy importante. Se aferró a EL y a las oraciones de su pueblo y se entregó con mayor eficacia y profundidad que nos sorprendió a todos; tanto fue así que sus enemigos pensaban que él no tenía nada porque lucía mas sano que antes. La fuerza espiritual y el coraje de un hermano que ha luchado sin tregua y no se ha rendido ni a los dolores ni a las adversidades. El tenía suficiente excusa para retirarse y dejarle el “coroto” a otro pero siguió adelante al frente de una campaña brutal para lograr “reelegirse” de nuevo como Presidente de la República a pesar de su enfermedad. Ni el “cáncer” pudo parar la nobleza, la entrega y el “espíritu de sacrificio” de éste noble hermano que ha asumido su “cruz” y ha seguido cumpliendo con la Misión que el SEÑOR JESÚS y su Pueblo les han confiado.

 

Así se lucha “contra el cáncer”, con fidelidad al compromiso por encima de toda adversidad hasta que ya no tenga fuerzas como lo hizo el Nazareno con la cruz hasta el calvario. Adelante hermano que tu ejemplo y testimonio nos edifica para seguir adelante a pesar de las dificultades que se nos presenten por el camino. Nos recuerdas el compromiso de los Profetas que muchas veces tuvieron que cargar sobre ellos el yugo y las enfermedades e infidelidades de su pueblo para hacerlos despertar con su propio testimonio. Siempre lo he dicho y hoy lo repito. YO CREO EN TI no por lo que dices sino por lo que haces. Hasta la victoria siempre y que dios te tenga con nosotros hasta que hayas cumplido con tu Misión que solo Dios lo sabe. Nosotros seguiremos adelante ya que tu ejemplo ha despertado a un pueblo que estaba dormido y que jamás volverá hacia atrás el cual se mantiene alerta y vigilante para defender lo conquistado. Pedimos a Dios que te recuperes rápido pues creo que aún te necesitamos un poco más. Que se haga siempre su voluntad ya que hace tiempo te has “consagrado” a el. Amén

 

Nota: He oído decir “cáncer maldito”; es “maldito” para aquellos que se dejan vencer por él; es “bendito” para aquellos que se hacen gigantes a costa de el.
