Las instituciones, organizaciones y representantes de pueblos en resistencia participantes en el Seminario Centroamericano de Análisis sobre “Industria minera, mitos y realidades” hemos decidido concluir nuestros testimonios, reflexiones, debates y deliberaciones con la siguiente declaración.
 
    1. Declaramos que nos inspira el amor por la vida, la solidaridad y el compromiso con las víctimas y la entrega de los mártires del sistema depredador y productor de violencia y miseria; que nos anima el convencimiento de sentirnos corresponsables de nuestro planeta como un regalo del Dios de la Vida para que dignamente lo compartamos como nuestra única casa común.
 
   2.  Declaramos que nos situamos en resistencia permanente contra la industria minera y sus compañías transnacionales explotadoras, generadoras de desastres sociales y ambientales, y que constituyen una amenaza creciente para la vida de las comunidades. Aunque la minería es riqueza, esta funciona en la lógica de multinacionales que, en contubernio con socios dentro de cada país, la explotan para llevarla al extranjero. 
 
  3.  Declaramos que la industria minera y las concesiones para la explotación industrial de otros recursos naturales son reflejo de un modelo extractivo, consumista y de contaminación. Es una explotación basada en la lógica de consumo infinito en un mundo con recursos limitados. La riqueza mineral deja miseria y desastre ambiental en las comunidades ubicadas en las áreas de explotación, en contraposición a la creciente vida de lujo y derroche de los propietarios de las compañías mineras.
 
  4.   Declaramos que la industria minera ha alcanzado tan alto nivel tecnológico que requiere cada vez de menos mano de obra y de menos tiempo para extraer la riqueza mineral, dejando como secuelas un acelerado desastre ambiental y la destrucción de las tradicionales formas comunitarias de vida. Una comunidad tocada por la explotación minera nunca vuelve a ser la misma; sus tejidos culturales quedan rotos. La explotación minera conlleva, promueve e incentiva la división y la corrupción.
 
   5.  Declaramos que en esta resistencia se confrontan dos cosmovisiones. La primera mira a la naturaleza y la Tierra como una madre, como fuente de vida y don sagrado para pueblos y comunidades. Las comunidades indígenas testimonian que “la Tierra es nuestra madre y las mineras la tienen destrozada, le han partido el corazón y eso es un atentado contra Dios”. La segunda es la de las compañías mineras. Para estas, las montañas y las minas, el agua y los bosques son negocio, dinero, crecimiento, desarrollo, bienestar económico, en el que todo debe ser convertido en ganancias y capital.
 
   6.  Declaramos que la industria minera con todas sus secuelas es criminal y por eso está provocando un fenómeno creciente de resistencia de comunidades, articuladas con organizaciones ambientalistas y populares. Como contrapartida, las mineras, en alianza con empresarios nacionales y autoridades públicas, amenazan, persiguen, secuestran y asesinan a dirigentes y líderes comunitarios a través de la Policía, el Ejército y guardias de seguridad privada.
 
   7.  Declaramos que las compañías mineras se confabulan con diputados de nuestros Congresos o asambleas legislativas para aprobar figuras jurídicas con el doble propósito de minimizar costos legales y criminalizar las luchas de resistencia. Las compañías mineras han hecho alianzas con medios informativos y comunicadores nacionales hasta conformar cercos mediáticos para controlar la información, desfigurar las luchas y presentar a la industria extractiva y contaminante como “bondadosa” para las comunidades, el Estado y la sociedad.
 
    8. Declaramos que nuestras luchas de resistencia se han de apoyar en alianzas con los diversos sectores nacionales e internacionales con los que compartimos el compromiso de defender nuestros bienes comunes y territorios; en estrategias de comunicación alternativa que logren romper el cerco mediático. Si las corporaciones mineras son las mismas que están en nuestros países, ¿cómo emprender luchas que fortalezcan nuestras identidades para hacer frente al peligro de dejarnos deslumbrar por el oro y las regalías de las compañías mineras? ¿Cómo fortalecer nuestros compromisos éticos para saber vencer las tentaciones de los sobornos, las atractivas ofertas de las mineras de mejorar los servicios públicos en nuestras comunidades o los miedos ante las amenazas y chantajes? ¿Cómo conformar plataformas/bloques que articulen nuestras luchas nacionales con luchas centroamericanas y latinoamericanas?.
 
    9. Declaramos que como comunidades; organizaciones ecologistas, ambientales, populares; universidades jesuitas; pueblos originarios; y sectores de iglesias que buscamos ser fieles al Evangelio, optamos por la articulación de los diversos esfuerzos en una lucha común por la paz, la salud y la vida, a partir de la defensa y protección de nuestros bienes naturales. Nuestra lucha será más creíble y sólida si la sostenemos sobre compromisos éticos y una práctica testimonial de austeridad, reciclaje, ahorro y protección de la naturaleza que comience en nuestros ambientes familiares e institucionales más cercanos.
 
    10. Declaramos que la vida es el don más preciado que hemos recibido de Dios y que lo debemos seguir defendiendo desde todos los medios pacíficos, no violentos. En pie de testimonio, elevamos nuestra plegaria al Dios de Jesucristo para que, con su Espíritu, tengamos las fuerzas para seguir las huellas de nuestros mártires latinoamericanos en este camino de entregas y generosidades hasta alcanzar la paz que nos arrope como un solo pueblo en libertad.
